Glucosamine is a naturally occurring amino sugar found in healthy cartilage, particularly in the fluid that surrounds joints.
For use in dietary supplements, glucosamine is harvested from shellfish or can be manufactured/derived from a plant source (corn). It comes in different chemical forms, but the one most commonly used for arthritis and overall joint health is glucosamine sulfate. In tests, glucosamine showed anti-inflammatory properties and appeared to help cartilage regeneration.
Joint Support for Animals
Effective joint support formulas usually contain Glucosamine along with MSM and Chondroitin.
· MSM– Delivers sulfur to the body in a useable way. Sulfur helps maintain the structure of connective joint tissue by forming disulfide bonds. Disulfide bonds form between different amino acids of a protein chain and help to stabilize.
· Chondroitin—Believed to enhance the shock-absorbing properties of collagen and block enzymes that break down cartilage. Chondroitin can help cartilage retain water and may reverse cartilage loss when used with glucosamine.
Joint Health formulas are readily available for most pets and equines. It will generally take two weeks before owners begin to notice a decrease in pain and an increase in mobility. Encourage regular use for best results.
